The devastated grandfather of seven-year-old Athena Strand said he forgave the “psycho” FedEx driver accused of robbing and killing her – but also felt he could have had “5 minutes a muscle in cell” with the suspect.
Mark Strand broke his silence in a heartbreaking Facebook post Sunday after his granddaughter’s body was found about six miles from his home in Paradise, Texas.
Athena disappeared from her home on Wednesday and an Amber Alert was issued the next day. His body was found on Friday.
Police said Tanner Lynn Horner, a 31-year-old FedEx driver, confessed to abducting the girl before killing her within an hour of her abduction. He is facing charges of capital murder and aggravated kidnapping.
There was no motive and Mr Horner did not believe there was a connection with the girl.
After his arrest, the musician’s cold song was revealed: “Sometimes I hear him cry. Silence is the most disgusting thing in life. If I am empty then why am I alive. “
FedEx releases statement after driver arrested in connection with Athena Strand’s murder
In a statement to Fox 4FedEx said: “Words cannot describe our shock and sadness at the reports surrounding this tragic event.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family during this most difficult time, and we continue to cooperate with the police investigation. In the meantime, further inquiries should be made. sent to the police.”
Authorities initially said Mr Horner was from the Lake Worth area. Lake Worth City police chief said in a tweet that it is near the lake itself.
