North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the launch of a “new type” of intercontinental ballistic missiles on Friday, accompanied by his young daughter, whose past life has not been confirmed.

Dramatic pictures released by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) appear to show Kim holding hands with a girl, as an ICBM sits on his cellphone nearby.

KCNA claimed that the “new” missile being viewed by the couple was the Hwasong-17, and said it was launched from Pyongyang International Airfield, flying a distance of 999.2 kilometers (621 miles).

Japan was alerted after an announcement on Friday that a new missile appeared to be capable of reaching the US mainland.

Kim said the test was intended to “demonstrate” his country’s ability to respond to what he called “terrorist warfare by enemies seeking to destroy peace and stability in South Korea,” according to the KCNA report.

Friday’s launch, which landed about 210 kilometers (130 miles) west of the Japanese island of Oshima Oshima, according to Japanese officials, is not the first time North Korea has fired an ICBM that experts and identified workers can reach America.

Friday’s missile launch was short in height and distance compared to Pyongyang’s March 24 missile test, which recorded the highest and longest range of any North Korean missile ever. test, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) at the time. The missile reached an altitude of 6,248.5 kilometers (3,905 miles) and flew a distance of 1,090 kilometers (681 miles), KCNA reported.

And in 2017, then-Secretary of the United States James Mattis, said that the missile developed by North Korea in that year was found to be able to hit “everything in the world. ”

Despite the missile’s theoretical range, Pyongyang’s ability to place a nuclear warhead on top of it and deliver it to a target remains unproven.

The rocket was fired into space before plunging back to Earth. Experts have not yet found any clear evidence that North Korea can get the head to successfully fire back into the world’s atmosphere.

Kim’s threats to America and South Korea are also nothing new.

After a missile test in October, the North Korean leader warned the enemy that his nuclear power was ready for “real war.”

Kim said in a KCNA report that “Our nuclear-armed forces … have proven again their full readiness for a real war to bring down the enemy within them regime,” Kim said in a KCNA report.

Very little is known about the private life of Kim Jong Un or his family.

Saturday’s news did not name Kim’s daughter, who appeared for the first time in state media. But in 2013, former basketball star Dennis Rodman told Britain’s the Guardian newspaper that Kim had a “child” named “Ju Ae.”

Rodman said he spent time with the family, describing Kim as a “good father” and he spoke to Kim’s wife, Ri Sol Ju.

“I held their baby Ju Ae and talked to Ms. Ri as well,” he told the newspaper.

State media did not announce Kim and Ri’s marriage until July 2012, some three years after South Korean intelligence officials believed the wedding had taken place.

But that changed in 2018, when she received the new title of “honorary wife” from North Korea’s state media, a step from the previous use of “friend” and signature , according to analysts, that he got himself. faith.

Kim and Ri have three children together, according to South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS).

North Korea has been ruled as a constitutional monarchy since it was founded in 1948 by Kim Il Sung. His son, Kim Jong Il, took over after his father’s death in 1994. And Kim Jong Un took power 17 years later when Kim Jong Il died.
