RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) — Raleigh police have confirmed that the girl hit by a float truck during the Raleigh Christmas Parade has died.

Police said the incident happened around 10:14 a.m. near the intersection of Hillsborough Street and Boylan Avenue when the driver said he lost control of the vehicle. He hit the child at low cost, police said.

Despite life support, the child died. No other parade participants were injured.

The driver, Landen Christopher Glass, 20, is facing charges of felony death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, improper equipment, reckless driving and carrying a firearm. in the performance.

People said they heard the driver yelling out the car window that he lost control and couldn’t stop the car.

“I just saw them coming down the road very fast and you can tell it’s not like gas, like they’re not gassing, it’s rolling, kind of rolling down the road. The road looks like you can tell them was scared,” tourist Melissa Stephens said.

A group of people including some first responders ran to the truck that was pulling the float to try to stop it.

“People came over and helped pull him over, slowed him down a little bit. They were trying to slow him down when he got to this point,” John Jones said.

Christy Curtis, Owner, CC & Company Dance Complex released a statement Saturday evening:

“We are devastated. Our dance family is a close-knit group and today our hearts are broken. We are working with the authorities as they determine what happened and why. how.”

Raleigh’s mayor, Mary-Ann Baldwin said her heart aches for the injured girl at the parade. He told her sad in a post on Twitter.

Govenor Roy Cooper issued a statement on twitter express his condolences to the family.
