He said: ‘I think Thierry Henry was not at Anelka’s level.

‘Titi was good, but I knew the players. I loved the other characters. However, he was not in my situation. The luck or the misfortune I had, was not to play in France.

Prior to Henry’s arrival at the Catalan club, the former Everton, Chelsea and Inter player had hinted that the Frenchman could replace him at Barca, insisting that the two could play on the same side.

He said: ‘That is not my problem. It belongs to Frank Rijkaard.

‘Some journalists wanted to create tension between me and ‘Titi’. I’m laughing. I have ‘Titi’ on the phone all the time. If he comes to Barca, thinking that he will put Samuel Eto’o on the bench, I say “no”. We will play together. We will be teammates.

‘I am not involved in any argument. I would like the coach to sign ‘Titi’. He is my friend.’
