Gomez told Rolling Stone that she struggled to find her own sound and appeal to her fans as she got older. The former Disney star also shared that she doesn’t have many famous friends to talk to about her problems.

I never met a cool group of girls who were celebrities. My only friend in this business is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong. I felt the presence of everyone around me living life to the fullest. I had this position, and I was really happy, but … was I? Do these materialistic things make me happy?” he said, and added, “I didn’t like who I was, because I didn’t know who I was.”

Swift and Gomez met in 2005. Gomez told the UK’s KIIS FM in 2017 that the two were dating members of the Jonas Brothers at the time and “just clicked.”

Friends have been showering each other with praise for the past few weeks. Gomez shared on her new SiriusXM radio station Thursday that Swift is “the most influential artist to me,” according to Billboard.

“It’s not because you’re my friend, but you’re an artist who can switch to many different genres and you can do it seamlessly and I love that. And that’s rare,” he said. “I love his program and admire all the work he’s done. He’s definitely an inspiration to me.”

Swift, who released her 10th studio album “Midnights” on October 21, also showed support for Gomez and her new film. In an Instagram story posted on Friday, the singer shared the trailer for “My Mind & Me” and a sweet note on the “Only Killers in the Building” actress.
