From 1969 to 1974, no other group had more top 10 hits, released more records, or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night.
Three Dog Night songs run through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard around the clock, in television commercials or in major motion pictures – songs like “Mama Wa Told Me (Hayi Aze),” “The Joy of the World,” “Black and White,” “Shambala.” and “One” serve to lift our spirits and highlight the continued popularity of Three Dog Nights.
Boasting chart and sales records that remain unmatched in popular music, Three Dog Nights has 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including three No. 1 hits, 11 Top 10s, 18 straight Top 20s, seven million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold. LPs. The hit appeared on the best-selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country).
Their records continue to sell worldwide, reaching beyond the borders of the US to Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and other places. Tens of millions of Three Night Dogs records have been sold over the years.
Formed in 1968 by Danny Hutton, Three Dog Night maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of more than 90 days a year, performing their concerts to packed audiences. The group’s now popular name refers to Australian outback Aboriginal hunters who hunted with their dogs to keep warm on cold nights; the coldest is “the night of the three dogs.”
The band recorded songs by the best and mostly undiscovered young songwriters of its time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group’s eclectic taste, combined with their ability to recognize and record songs in a unique, distinctive, and catchy style, resulted in Three Dog Nights dominating the charts for years. Band music transcends time,
connecting new and old audiences alike.
Three Dog Night presents its eclectic song selection once again with new material recorded for the upcoming album release. One of the new tracks, “Children’s Prayer” was discovered by Hutton who created an a cappella arrangement, so that for the first time in the history of Three Nights of the Dog, the voices of all six members of the band were revealed. The song is currently part of their live concert and has quickly become an audience favorite.
Marking more than 50 years on the road, Three Dog Nights continues to grow their fan base by maintaining a full schedule of concerts in theaters, performing arts centers, exhibitions, festivals, corporate events, and casinos. Since 1986, the group has performed nearly 3,000 shows including two Super Bowls.
